UNO Swept By USA in Mobile

The Privateers opened the 2015 baseball campaign the same way they left off in 2014, squandering an early lead en route to an error-riddled loss in Friday's season opener. This time, the victor was the South Alabama Jaguars by a 7-3 score, as they and New Orleans renewed an old Sun Belt rivalry to start the season.

In game two, South Alabama used a four-run sixth to extend their lead en route to a comfortable 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon.  Freshman Shawn Semple started on the mound and only gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings, but he took the loss.

The third of this three-game series was won again by South Alabama by an 8-6 final. Newcomer Preston Marsh led the way with two hits and two runs batted in, but UNO was done in by shaky relief pitching after jumping out to an early 4-0 lead.

Privateers Bottom Out at UCA

The 2014-15 basketball season has officially taken a turn for the ugly.

After struggling in Lake Charles and Thibodaux, the Privateers (6-13, 2-8) finished a winless road trip on Saturday, falling 70-67 against a Central Arkansas team that entered the game 0-19 on the season. The Bears had firm control of the game from the outset, jumping to an 18-6 lead, and held a 66-51 lead with about five minutes left before New Orleans' frantic rally to tie the game at 67.

However, two free throws by UCA's Mathieu Kamba put the Bears back ahead for good, and the Privateers were unable to score late to finish the comeback.

Tevin Broyles came off the bench to lead UNO with 16 points. They will return home to Lakefront Arena for a Monday night contest with McNeese State.

In a game that was a grind from start to finish, Nicholls wriggled past a frustrated Privateer team by a 67-55 score.  New Orleans (6-12, 2-7) lost each half by six points and were never able to sustain a run against the host Colonels.

Christavious Gill led UNO with 14 points. His three-pointer from the left baseline, the only successful trey by the team for the game, brought the Privateers to within 53-50, but they were unable to get any closer.
