Two In a Row: UNO Rallies Again

UNO to a comeback win
The Privateers (7-12, 3-5) rallied from a second half deficit for the second time this week, besting McNeese at homecoming by a 76-64 score.

Erik Thomas led New Orleans in scoring with 16 points. Christavious Gill and Kevin Hill joined him in double-digits with 15 each, and Travin Thibodaux led the way on the boards with 13.

UNO will go for a third straight win on Monday evening as they complete their three-game homestand against Nicholls.

Hill, Thomas Power UNO to Comeback Win

Things were looking grim for the Privateers (6-12, 2-5), down double-digits in the second half to three-win Central Arkansas on Monday night. But New Orleans got it into gear, rallying into the lead and closing the win late by a 94-83 score.

Senior Kevin Hill posted a huge double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead six Privateers in double digits. Erik Thomas had a big night in the post as well, posting his own double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.

McNeese is next on the schedule for UNO, as the Cowboys travel to the lakefront this weekend for a Saturday evening contest.

TAMU-CC Surges in 2nd Half, Tops UNO

Host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi broke open a close game in the second half, besting the Privateers 97-76 on Saturday night. Rashawn Thomas continued his torrid run through the Southland Conference with 24 points and 8 rebounds.

New Orleans' Erik Thomas led both teams with 15 rebounds, however, to go along with a team-high 16 points. Travin Thibodaux notched 14 for UNO.

The Privateers will try to stop their five-game losing streak back home at Lakefront Arena on Monday night when they'll take on Central Arkansas.

Smacked By The Jacks

The Privateers (5-11, 1-4) avoided a fourth consecutive close loss at Lakefront Arena this evening, instead getting manhandled by Southland Conference power Stephen F. Austin, 82-58.

Demetrious Floyd lit up the New Orleans defense with 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting, and reigning SLC Player of the Year Thomas Walkup added 19. UNO's balanced but mostly ineffective attack was led by Kevin Hill with 12 points.

After their winless three-game homestand, UNO hits the road on Saturday night when they'll take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Yet Another Close Loss

The Privateers (5-10, 1-3) dropped another close game Saturday night at Lakefront Arena, falling to Houston Baptist 73-69. New Orleans saw another late lead slip away, as they held a late 63-60 lead before going cold.

HBU was led by Anthony Odunsi's game-high 28 points. UNO was led by Christavious Gill with 15 points, 11 of which came down the stretch in the losing effort.

UNO will try to avoid a winless three-game homestand on Monday night as they take on Southland Conference power Stephen F. Austin.

UIW Surges Late to Beat Privateers

Behind 27 points from Kyle Hittle, Incarnate Word eked out a victory in Lakefront Arena over the Privateers (5-9, 1-2) by a 71-68 count.

Trailing 61-58, UIW hit a quick 9-0 spurt to take a 67-61 lead. UNO answered with their own 7-0 run before Hittle drained two free throws to put the Cardinals up for good.

Kevin Hill led New Orleans with 18 points on the evening. Erik Thomas was the only other Privateer in double digits with 10.

Another Close-Call Loss to Bearkats

The Privateers (5-8, 1-1) led 68-66 late but faltered down the stretch, losing a close road game at Sam Houston, 73-70.  Christavious Gill drained what would have been a game-tying three with time running out, but New Orleans called a timeout just before he released the ball.

Nate Frye led the UNO scoring with 14 points. Tevin Broyles had 13, and Gill had 10. The teams combined for 72 free throws in a foul-filled game.

New Orleans opens Southland play at home on Monday night at Lakefront Arena against Incarnate Word.

UNO Powers Past Lamar Late

The Privateers (5-7, 1-0) made a statement in the opening game of their Southland Conference slate, surging past Lamar in the final minute at the Montagne Center to notch a 68-64 win.

New Orleans led by as many as 12 on two different occasions in the second half, but the host Cardinals rallied to tie the score at 64 before Kevin Hill's basket in traffic put UNO back up for good with under a minute left. Cameron Reed's two free throws with under a second left clinched the victory.

Hill had a huge night for the Bucs with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Christavious Gill, shut out in the first half, made several timely plays in the second, with three three-pointers and a steal/layup for 11 in the second half.

UNO travels to Sam Houston on Saturday before their conference home opener a week from tonight at Lakefront Arena.
