The Privateers got a challenge from feisty Abilene Christian but escaped Lakefront Arena with a narrow 87-81 win for their first Southland Conference victory. Tradarrius McPhearson led the Privateers (4-7, 1-2) with 19 points. Freshman Christavious Gill had a career-high 17 points, and Kevin Hill also chipped in 14 for the winners.
Earlier in the day, the UNO women were dismantled 88-44 by ACU.
UNO returns to Lakefront Arena on Saturday afternoon to take on Incarnate Word.
